International Telecommunication for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises - ASITEL

ASITEL allows people who do not speak the same language to communicate with each other via the telephone. It works through an interpreter who translates what the caller and the recipient say to each other into the appropriate language.

The project has developed a system where callers dial a service phone number to ask for the language they need. The request is then be scheduled to an available interpreter who makes the connection and delivers the service.

ASITEL will investigate and recommend the most flexible implementation of the service in the future for both customer companies and interpreters. SMEs in particular will be able to benefit from an efficient and effective way of extending their business reach into new geographic market segments.
